Lots going on

Posted: January 22, 2017 by Carrbrook Angling in carrbrook angling club, walkerwood reservoir

Lots of activity at Walkerwood this weekend with work coming along really well. There are lots of pegs open now so you have  space to fish and clear paths to get around the resi. Two new car parks were cleared on Sunday to give good access to the water from the top end to save long walks with fishing tackle. There are locked gates to pass through but these have the same combination as our other locks and we would advise taking care as the roads are a little rough. We had Carl Gee down filming around the reservoir so expect something soon on his great you tube channel (click here to view Carl’s site)

I was fishing again Saturday and its was a very entertaining few hours  with more top quality roach and a solitary perch also put in an appearance. We know there is a really good head of large Perch in the depths somewhere but they are staying hidden just for now.

January Afternoon on Walkerwood

Posted: January 15, 2017 by Carrbrook Angling in carrbrook angling club, millbrook, walkerwood reservoir

A grey wet day in January may not be the best time to go fishing but with Walkerwood now being open for fishing it was too much to resist. A tub of maggots and a feeder rod was all the gear needed so I was travelling nice and light. After 20 minutes of punching the feeder about 40yrds the roach started to get onto the bait. The next couple of hours were very pleasurable, relaxing fishing with pretty regular bites and a decent stamp of roach all fin perfect and healthy little scrappers. No wild runaway bites today but considering the time of year and the recent cold snap, this was good enough to go home happy and looking forward to returning as soon as I can.

Thanks to all that attended today. We got loads done and a few pegs opened up. The members who payed up the additional subs can now fish.A letter will be going out to all members this week with details of how to gain access to this water and the rules. We will be holding a meeting in a week or so for the members who missed today.

We are pleased to announce that we carrbrook angling club have managed to secure a lease on walkerwood reserviour. The reservoir is 30 acers in size and is loaded with corse fish to specimen sizes. It’s been a trout fishery for the last 30 years so it’s pretty much untapped fishing. There are bait limits of half kg per day per angler no ground bait but we do have maggots, worms, corn, boilies, pellets, to start with all anglers will have to sign on to the risk and method statement and pay a fee on top of there current membership to gain access to the water. Please don’t enter the fishery until you’r signed up. I’ll be sending out letters to all members with details on how to access the water parking rules etc. The water is closed for a few weeks until we get the signs up and paperwork complete but we’ll be letting you all know when work will commence as there’s mountains of work to be done, cutting back clearing fishing areas etc before it can be opened.. Merry Christmas and Happy new year !!

Lovely to see the dam starting to fill out now after being a building site for so long. Nature is starting to do what she does best and make the place look natural again and the habitat we wanted to create is starting to take shape. There’s plenty of stuff going on under the water as well you cant see !
